This opportunity to make your own pumping jack can offer guests a hands-on understanding of how pumping jacks work with a simple crank. This activity is appropriate for ages 10 and up\, or also for eight year-olds with adult assistance. We will be working with wooden blocks\, some sharp objects\, basic hand tools\, and art foam (a petroleum by-product) in this cranky contraption construction. Covid-19 precautions are in place for the safety of guests and museum staff.

DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception for artist Beth Hubbert’s exhibit "Adventure of Escape: Real and Imagined" SAAC invites you to an artist’s reception honoring Sherman\, Texas\, artist Beth Hubbert on Saturday\, September 4\, 6-7:30pm. Her exhibit entitled "Adventure and Escape: Real and Imagined" will hang in the Lobby Gallery September 4/28. Hubbert paints from a place of happiness. This exhibit for SAAC does NOT contain dark and dreary paintings for more than a year of living in a pandemic. Instead\, her use of vibrant\, non-conforming color results in paintings that are cheerful and hopeful and\, thus\, the title of the exhibit\, "Adventure and Escape: Ral and Imagined." Numerous painting in the exhibit include bold depictions of places she has traveled around the world.ome of the work is simply something she saw along the way such as chickens in Mexico or flowers spotted while driving country roads. The goal of this exhibit is to cause the viewer to smile and reflect on good times. Hubbert said about her SAAC show\, "My mother\, Betty Pittman Harper\, was born and raised in El Dorado so returning to SAAC is special to me. My exhibit contains paintings that are cheerful and hopeful with my goal being to provide a moment of escape for the viewer."
