SUMMARY:MAD on Ice
DESCRIPTION:Murphy Arts District has announced that MAD on Ice will return for a fourth year beginning November 19th\, 2022\, and run through January 2nd\, 2023. Visitors will once again be able to skate on real ice atop the outdoor amphitheater stage this holiday season. MAD on Ice is presented by Murphy USA with additional funding from the El Dorado A&P Commission.\n“We are thrilled to kick off another season of MAD on Ice. I encourage those that have previously attended MAD on Ice to share your experience with your out-of-town family and friends. We’d love to see some new faces this holiday season as well as our locals. Downtown El Dorado is the perfect backdrop for holiday shopping\, dining\, and lodging. MAD on Ice is basically the ICING on the cake as far as a complete holiday experience in South Arkansas\,” noted Joanna Benson\, MAD Marketing Coordinator.\nTickets cost $14 per person\, tax included\, for unlimited skating per day. Skate rentals cost $3\, tax included\, per person and are available in children’s size 8 to men’s size 15. Platinum & Gold MAD members can enjoy free skate rental all season long by presenting their member card.\nThere are two types of skating aids or ‘helpers’ – Bobby the Seal and Tommy the Reindeer\, which will help both adults and children enjoy the ice. Each are available for rent at $5\, tax included\, for a 90-minute cycle (as defined by the period in between ice cleaning with the re-surfacer). Helmets will be available for free on a first come\, first served basis. A skating waiver form must be filled out for each person skating or watching from the stage. Waivers can be filled out in advance online or in person.\nSeason passes will be available providing unlimited skating time plus skate rental. The cost is $85\, tax included\, for an individual or $145\, tax included\, for two people. There will also be a pay-as-you-go skating punch card\, offering “skate nine times and the tenth is free.”\nThe ice rink will be available for a limited amount of special event private rentals. SUMMARY:HOLIDAY LIGHT EXTRAVAGANZA@THE MUSEUM
DESCRIPTION:Each holiday season\, the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources’ Oil Field Park comes to life with the sights and sounds of the season. A variety of sparkling vignettes and holiday music delight the young and young at heart. Holiday Lights Extravaganza started in 2007 to commemorate a Union County tradition that took place in 1935 when a 13-year-old Smackover resident\, Eddie Rouse\, won a Christmas Decoration contest. He nailed two boards together making a cross and wired it up with lights. Eddie won that year and for several years to follow. After that\, Eddie went on to become a Union County hero. He was star athlete\, playing football for Smackover High School and Mississippi State University. When American entered WWII\, Eddie joined General Patton’s Third Army of paratroopers. Sadly\, he would not return from Europe; he was killed by sniper fire. Every year\, Eddie’s mom put out Eddie’s Cross decoration to celebrate his life. For fifteen years\, the museum is happy to carry on the celebration of Eddie Rouse and bring this Union County memory back to life each Holiday Season. The show has grown over the years to more 100\,000 lights throughout the Oil Field Park. You are invited to come out and join the celebration. Holiday Lights Extravaganza will be every Friday and Saturday night starting November 18th and ending on December 17th\, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. The cost is $10 per carload and includes a walking tour\, about a quarter mile long. It is an easy walk and wheelchair accessible. Inside\, our OIL PATCH Gift Shop will be open for last minute unique holiday gift purchases; linger in the lobby to warm up with FREE hot chocolate.
