DESCRIPTION:Artist Gay Bechtelheimer returns to the SAAC stage to present the next in her series of “Art Talks” focusing on the work of the German Expressionist painters. The free event will begin with refreshments in the lobby at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday\, January 18\, followed by Bechtelheimer’s onstage presentation.\nExpressionism was a modernist movement of the early 20th century focused on presenting the world through emotional experience\, rather than physical reality. The artists’ work was reflective of the quickly changing modern world in which they suddenly found themselves.\n“Amid the dramatic urbanization and industrialization that occurred in Germany prior to World War I\, a collective group of artists known as the German Expressionists depicted their zeitgeist\, the feelings of disillusion they saw and felt in society as the promise of war loomed\,” said Bechtelheimer. “Their work was emotive and unrestrained as they conveyed their ideas of the anxious realities they were experiencing.”\nThese entertaining\, relaxed lectures present art and art history in an enjoyable format designed to appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds.
