Job Description
Job Summary:
The selected applicant for this position is responsible for instructing Secondary Technical Center high school PN students in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings of the program. This is a full-time, twelve-month position. The selected candidate should be articulate, team oriented, professional in appearance and demeanor, and display excellent interpersonal skills. He/she will maintain currency within his/her field, including required licensure. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
Salary: Annual salary range of $50,000-$53,000 to commensurate with education and experience. Plus, excellent benefit package.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The selected applicant will supervise Secondary Technical Center (STC) PN students in the classroom, simulation lab, and clinical settings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the STC PN Program Coordinator with completing and submitting program documents required by ASBN and/or accreditation entities when/if applicable.
- Assures that the STC PN program abides by college, ASBN, and accreditation (when/if applicable) regulations, rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Collaborates with the STC PN Program Coordinator, Nursing Program Director, Dean of Health Sciences, and the Dean of Career Education in coordinating and scheduling program courses each semester.
- Works with faculty members to develop and maintain current master and course syllabi by college policy.
- Works with faculty members to perform assessment of applicable nursing courses and submission of course assessment reports as per college policy.
- Maintains a comprehensive system of records for administration, faculty and students as per college policy and ASBN and accreditation (when/if applicable) regulations; assists with the preparation of reports for internal and external purposes; and carries on correspondence relating to the program.
- Assists STC PN Program Coordinator with preparation of program budget.
- Assists with preparation of program publications, brochures, and applicable sections of the college catalog.
- Serves on college committees and attends meetings as appointed.
- Works with the Secondary Technical Center (STC) PN Coordinator and Nursing Program Director to develop and implement policies related to admission, retention, and progression of students, including initiation and coordination of student selection from application to admission into the program.
- Provides academic advisement to students.
- Assists with planning and implementing student recruitment activities.
- Works with the STC PN Coordinator to assess and evaluate student retention and attrition to include policies for retention improvement.
- Collaborates with the STC PN Program Coordinator and the Nursing Program Director to initiate and maintain current contractual agreements with clinical agencies.
- Assists with the development of preceptorship/internship experiences where applicable.
- Collaborates with faculty to procure and implement use of equipment, supplies, electronic technology, applicable software, and learning resources for class, lab, and/or clinical delivery and enhancement.
- Collaborates with the STC PN Coordinator, Nursing Program Director, and the Dean of Health Sciences to ensure efficient use of instructional resources to facilitate student progress toward meeting objectives.
- Participates in scholarly and service activities that include current nursing education and professional development.
- Participates in bi-annual advisory committee meetings, including collaboration to assess the needs of the community and respond appropriately.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to operate and instruct utilizing standard nursing equipment.
Required Education and Experience:
- Holds a minimum of an Associate Degree in Registered Nursing (RN)
- Holds a valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing license to practice in Arkansas.
- Work experience as a Registered Nurse for a minimum of two (2) years
- Possesses sound familiarity of current nursing concepts, principles, practices, and skills.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (RN) or Master of Science in Nursing degree (RN)
- Work experience as a Registered Nurse for five (5) or more years
- Work experience in teaching and/or clinical instruction; Knowledgeable of the rules and regulations of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: physical mobility sufficient for long periods of office work and direct supervision of students in lab and clinical settings; have visual ability sufficient for observation and assessment; auditory ability sufficient for monitoring and assessing health needs; and fine and gross motor skills sufficient for providing safe and competent nursing care. The employee must be able to move around and about their area, and operate a computer as needed. Some lifting will be expected and he/she must be able to perform expected duties of a nursing instructor in various clinical settings.
