SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Staff Accountant performs moderately complex accounting and financial reporting functions in support of the Bank’s investment portfolio, interest rate risk management, financial reporting, and general ledger accounting process. This role is responsible for maintaining investment and related accounting records, supporting regulatory and management reporting, preparing and analyzing financial data and assisting with budgeting, forecasting, tax reporting and other key accounting functions. This position requires strong attention to detail, analytical capability, and adherence to internal controls to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the Bank’s financial information.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business. 2-4 years of accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMPLEXITY: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for bond accounting and reporting, including public funds reporting/compliance. Responsible for Interest Rate Risk model maintenance and monthly processing; perform validation routines between model and GL and loan & deposit applications. Perform various functions associated with financial reporting. Analyzing and processing transactions in all areas of the bank. Review/prepare reconciliation and determine disposition of discrepancies. Responsible for Mortgage Division Accrual reports. Prepare reports, summaries, etc., as needed. Assist with annual budget, quarterly call reports, budgeting and forecasting, tax reporting, etc. Compute and prepare data for journal entries, including setup for prepaid and accrual GL entries. Back-up/support for various accounting functions. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be proficient in MS Office applications specifically Excel (pivot tables, macros, vlookup etc.) Must possess excellent organization skills and be able to work under strict time deadlines. Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Should be able to handle multiple tasks and be a self-starter.
