DESCRIPTION:The South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC) invites the public to experience Under the Sky\, a thought-provoking exhibition by Jonesboro\, Arkansas artist Lydia Dildilian\, on view in the Merkle Gallery from August 3 through September 26. An opening reception honoring the artist will be held Monday\, August 3\, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. \nWorking across painting\, drawing\, sculpture\, collage\, and installation\, Dildilian creates layered works that explore memory\, landscape\, motherhood\, migration\, and the ways stories are carried across generations. Inspired by Ottoman and Mongol miniature painting traditions\, Silk Road histories\, and her Armenian heritage\, Under the Sky invites visitors to consider how personal experiences connect to broader cultural histories.

SUMMARY:SAAC: “Spirit of the Tides” Ballet Camp
DESCRIPTION:Junior Camp dancers entering 1st through 4th grade\, or who have been enrolled in Ballet 1\, 2\, or 3 at SAAC\, will build their skills\, learn choreography\, and perform. Senior Camp dancers entering grades 5 and up\, or enrolled in SAAC’s Ballet 4 and 5\, are also invited to participate in this summer’s Ballet Camp experience. \nJunior campers (1st-4th grades) will attend from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. every day\, with the exception of Friday\, when they will stay through the 6:00 p.m. showcase. Bring a snack on Friday! \nSenior campers (grades 5 and up) will attend from 9am-2pm. Bring a lunch every day. Friday all dancers will stay through the 6 pm performance. \nSAAC Ballet Camps offer the unique opportunity to take not only classical ballet classes to develop technique\, but also perform in an original mini-ballet\, to help dancers cultivate expression and artistry. Dancers will be involved in all aspects of the production including costume design\, set construction\, and developing choreography. \nDancers of all experience levels are needed and encouraged; former ballet experience is not required\, as choreography will be created and adjusted to fit all levels of experience so that dancers feel comfortable and look good on stage. \nFormer SAAC dancers and dancers from all studios are welcome at Ballet Camp for the summer show. \nCost is $120/145

DESCRIPTION:SAAC will be hosting its biennial Juried Art Competition\, offering a chance for artists in the region\, the state\, and beyond\, to enter their recent work in an exhibition selected by a leader in the current art world. The competition’s juror\, Teresa Booth Brown\, has been a teaching artist since 1985 and comes most recently from Aspen Art Museum in Colorado. The exhibition will be on view in the Merkle and Price Galleries June 4 through 27\, with an artist reception on the evening of the 27th\, at 5:30pm.

DESCRIPTION:The worlds of art and nature will collide in a four-part\, plein-air drawing and painting workshop led by artist Maria Botti Villegas throughout 2026. “Four Seasons at Richland Creek Farm” will allow participants to enjoy the beauty of El Dorado’s own Richland Creek Farm and create a work of art on-site during four distinct\, seasonal workshops. Scheduled during each of the farm’s natural phases\, each workshop will focus on the beauty of the season.\n\nStudents can register for a single session for $80\, or all four for $320. All supplies will be provided\, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. The workshops are scheduled for March 21\, May 30\, September 19\, and November 28\, beginning at 9:00 a.m. each Saturday.

DESCRIPTION:The South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC) invites the community to get creative at “Tote-ally Inkredible\,” a Corks & Canvas workshop on Thursday\, May 21 at 6 p.m. \nLed by local artist and SAAC Arts Academy Visual Arts Instructor Michalea Gross\, this hands-on workshop will guide participants step-by-step through the screen-printing process as they design and print their very own tote bag. Participants will learn the basics of screen printing\, including how to prepare a design\, apply ink\, and transfer their artwork onto fabric\, resulting in a personalized tote that is both functional and uniquely their own. \nSpace is limited to 12 participants\, and early registration is encouraged. SUMMARY:SAAC: "Outermost" Exhibit by Gay Bechtelheimer
DESCRIPTION:Artist Gay Bechtelheimer debuts an exhibition of her new works\, entitled “Outermost\,” in SAAC’s Merkle Gallery. Her work\, which includes watercolor\, pastel\, and collage\, will be on display May 7-28. The bold\, colorful\, and emotional pieces will be unveiled to the public with a reception on the evening of May 7\, starting at 6:30 p.m. Each piece is a different exploration of the artist’s point of view\, from dramatic seascapes to diminutive abstracts.\n\nBechtelheimer\, a retired educator from the El Dorado Public Schools\, looks to a diverse group of sources for inspiration in her work. The primary drivers for this body of work were the atmosphere and aesthetics that she experienced on a recent trip to Cape Cod. “I was not prepared for the expanse of sea and sky that I was going to see\,” she said. “You go to the outermost point of our continent\, and the magnificent\, vast horizon is the only thing in front of you. There is a profound\, eternal certainty to those waves.”\n\nThe exhibition’s title is drawn from the book “The Outermost House” by Henry Beston. He\, along with Henry David Thoreau and Robert Finch are the preeminent chroniclers of this stretch of shoreline\, and passages from their writings are also included on the gallery’s walls.
