SUMMARY:SAAC: Lobby Gallery Exhibit\, Barbara Satterfield: Found Object Portraits
DESCRIPTION:Clay artist Barbara Satterfield creates original ceramic sculptures and vessels inspired by\nnature\, often incorporating found objects or press molds of found objects she has gathered\nover decades. Primarily a coil builder\, she stretches her medium to coax clay forms into\nunusual compositions that lift up often-overlooked aspects of the natural world. Her\nfinishes range from borosilicate glazes to oil paints and encaustic. Her photography line\,\nOutside In\, provides digital images of her original work to share on a shelf\, tuck in a corner\,\nor grace a small space. Satterfield creates work in her home studio in Conway\, Arkansas\, and her work will be on display in SAAC’s Lobby Gallery from March 3 to March 26.

DESCRIPTION:The South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC) will present “Pichwai Art\,” a debut exhibition by artist Manasi Desai\, on view in the Lobby Gallery from February 3 through March 1. An Artist Reception will be held on Thursday\, February 12\, from 5:30 to 7:00pm. \nDesai’s exhibition centers on Pichwai art\, a traditional Indian painting style that originated nearly 400 years ago in Nathdwara\, Rajasthan. Renowned for its intricate detail and vibrant color\, Pichwai art most often depicts Lord Krishna and scenes from his life\, particularly his playful interactions with cows and the Gopis (milkmaids). The term “Pichwai” is derived from the Sanskrit words pichh (back) and wai (hanging)\, referencing the large cloth paintings traditionally displayed as temple backdrops. Historically\, Pichwai art has served as a devotional form of worship and remains an important visual tradition within the Pushtimarg sect of Vaishnavism\, while also conveying stories from Indian mythology and literature.

On November 3\, the class will create Golden Joy\, a glowing gold ornament accented with red berries and greenery. DESCRIPTION:The South Arkansas Arts Center invites the community to explore the art of storytelling through collage and paper craft at “Mini Masterpieces: A Collage Zine Workshop\,” led by El Dorado native and University of Arkansas student Jill Stone\, on Saturday\, November 15\, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The full-day workshop is $40. \nThis hands-on workshop will guide participants through the process of creating mini collage zines—small\, handmade paper books often called mini magazines or fan zines. Using folded paper\, participants will construct pocket-sized books of eight pages each\, with the opportunity to produce multiple zines throughout the day. \nStone will encourage participants to draw inspiration from favorite poems\, literary works\, or their own original writing\, pairing words with images in inventive collages. Using found and recycled materials—books\, magazines\, packaging\, tags\, labels\, scraps\, and more—participants will transform everyday paper into artful expressions of creativity.
