SUMMARY:SAAC: "Outermost" Exhibit by Gay Bechtelheimer
DESCRIPTION:Artist Gay Bechtelheimer debuts an exhibition of her new works\, entitled “Outermost\,” in SAAC’s Merkle Gallery. Her work\, which includes watercolor\, pastel\, and collage\, will be on display May 7-28. The bold\, colorful\, and emotional pieces will be unveiled to the public with a reception on the evening of May 7\, starting at 6:30 p.m. Each piece is a different exploration of the artist’s point of view\, from dramatic seascapes to diminutive abstracts.\n\nBechtelheimer\, a retired educator from the El Dorado Public Schools\, looks to a diverse group of sources for inspiration in her work. The primary drivers for this body of work were the atmosphere and aesthetics that she experienced on a recent trip to Cape Cod. “I was not prepared for the expanse of sea and sky that I was going to see\,” she said. “You go to the outermost point of our continent\, and the magnificent\, vast horizon is the only thing in front of you. There is a profound\, eternal certainty to those waves.”\n\nThe exhibition’s title is drawn from the book “The Outermost House” by Henry Beston. He\, along with Henry David Thoreau and Robert Finch are the preeminent chroniclers of this stretch of shoreline\, and passages from their writings are also included on the gallery’s walls.

SUMMARY:SAAC: Merkle Gallery Exhibit "Captivating Landscapes" by Satterfield\, Justus\, Chambers\, and Sell
DESCRIPTION:The South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC) presents “Captivating Landscapes\,” a group exhibition featuring works by Central Arkansas Artists Susan Baker Chambers\, Dolores Justus\, Barbara Satterfield\, and Sandra Sell. A public opening reception will be held on Thursday\, March 5\, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. \nThe artists contributing to “Captivating Landscapes” share a deep identification with and inspiration drawn from the natural world. While each maintains a distinct visual language and preferred medium\, their work reflects personal relationships to gardens\, fields\, forests\, foothills\, and waterways. From this common ground\, the artists focus on specific elements within particular landscapes\, interpreting them through selective and intentional processes that reveal layers of meaning beyond first impressions.

SUMMARY:SAAC:"Pichwai Art" Exhibition by Manasi Desai
DESCRIPTION:The South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC) will present “Pichwai Art\,” a debut exhibition by artist Manasi Desai\, on view in the Lobby Gallery from February 3 through March 1. An Artist Reception will be held on Thursday\, February 12\, from 5:30 to 7:00pm. \nDesai’s exhibition centers on Pichwai art\, a traditional Indian painting style that originated nearly 400 years ago in Nathdwara\, Rajasthan. Renowned for its intricate detail and vibrant color\, Pichwai art most often depicts Lord Krishna and scenes from his life\, particularly his playful interactions with cows and the Gopis (milkmaids). The term “Pichwai” is derived from the Sanskrit words pichh (back) and wai (hanging)\, referencing the large cloth paintings traditionally displayed as temple backdrops. Historically\, Pichwai art has served as a devotional form of worship and remains an important visual tradition within the Pushtimarg sect of Vaishnavism\, while also conveying stories from Indian mythology and literature.
