Job Description

  • This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy. The selected applicant is responsible for instructing students in the classroom, and/or in the virtual learning setting within the Health Science division. The applicant should be professional, articulate, and collaborative as well as have excellent interpersonal skills. Work schedule may vary depending when course section(s) are offered. Position may require evening and weekend work hours.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction of Personal and Community Health courses within the Health Science division. This includes preparing syllabi, preparation for class sessions, communicating with students, assessing student work, completing assessment tasks, completing semester grade requirements, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate expertise and competence of the course material and educational methodologies.
  • Utilize various retention and remediation strategies for student success.
  • Use educational technology in teaching courses to facilitate learning, access data, maintain records, and communicate with others appropriately and effectively.
  • Use the College’s Learning Management System (LMS) and technology on a regular basis to enhance instruction, facilitate student learning, access data, generate reports, and in communication with others.
  • Maintain organized system of student records, abiding by college record management guidelines.
  • Actively participate in applicable annual evaluation processes related to job performance as directed by the South Arkansas College plan for Faculty Evaluation and incorporate associated strategies to address continuous improvement for development and learning.
  • Participate in applicable professional development and as required.
  • Abide by college policies and procedures in the South Arkansas College Administrative Procedures Manual (APM) and catalog.
  • Provide availability to meet with students regarding course content.
  • Adhere to FERPA Guidelines when handling student information.
  •  Perform other duties as assigned by the division dean.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to use professional technology to conduct college-related business (ex. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to teach in both in-person and online modalities using the College LMS (Blackboard Ultra).
  • Executive cognitive functions to plan, organize, teach, and evaluate students in course work and activities.
  • Emotional regulation to manage self and multiple situations within a short period of time and maintain self to complete tasks and duties over an extended period of time.
  • Ability to perform Personal and Community Health learning techniques.
  • Manipulate, operate, and maintain typical equipment used in teaching Personal and Community Health.
  • Perform multiple tasks within a classroom, over period of time needed to teach class sessions.
  • Executive functioning skills needed to identify, analyze, and complete complex learning and Personal and Community Health related situations.
  • Teach others with various learning styles and instructional needs.
  • Work in spaces such as: classroom, office space, academic spaces and buildings, college campus, and public community areas.
  • Work in spaces that are both inside and outside.
  • Work in close proximity to others.
  • Work with individuals, small groups and large groups of people.
  • Work with in spaces with some distracting noises and sounds.

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience: The applicant must hold a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits related to Personal and Community Health.

Preferred Education and Experience: Hold a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits related to Personal and Community Health and have experience as an in-person class instructor and a virtual class instructor are preferred.

    • physical mobility sufficient for teaching Personal and Community Health courses,
    • operate a computer,
    • communicate with others,
    • auditory ability sufficient for monitoring and assessing radiologic technology student learning and patient needs,
    • fine and gross motor skills sufficient for providing safe and competent instruction, have visual ability sufficient for observation and assessment, and
    • lift 50 pounds with good static and dynamic balance
