We are History!
The South Arkansas Historical Preservation Society (SAHPS) is an organization committed to keeping the historical past of our area alive through preservation, facilities, exhibits, and events. The Preservation Society’s principal property is the beautiful Newton House Museum. This historic Greek Revival 1849 home has authentic décor that reflects its antebellum style providing a glimpse into our rich history.
The Historical Preservation Society also operates the Gallery of History and the Union County Sports Hall of Fame with a 1,000+ sq.ft. exhibition space including administrative offices, featuring rotating exhibits from the permanent collections as well as traveling exhibits. On the first Saturday of May, the SAHPS hosts the annual Mayhaw Festival, a celebration of the indigenous berry found in the swamps and lowlands of the south.
