Job Summary:

The Skilled Trades Helper works under supervision of the Physical Plant Director or Foreman. This position assists in one or more of the following skilled trades areas: primarily groundskeeping, with some plumbing, electrical, carpentry or mechanical, as necessary. This position is governed by state and federal laws and South Arkansas College policy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Maintains all outside ground areas of the South Arkansas College including mowing, weed removal, edging, and other grounds maintenance necessary or required.
   1. All sidewalks are cleaned and blown free of any trash or debris
   2. All trash will be picked up from grounds and dispose. Any mowing or weed eating of the grounds
2. May provide assistance in the repair of air, gas, water or waste disposal systems.
3. May provide assistance in painting, plastering or preparing surfaces for repair or re-finishing.
4. May provide assistance in all areas of carpentry.
5. Assists in inspection of facility and provides preventative maintenance as necessary.
6. Assists in cleaning after campus events.
7. Other duties as required or assigned.

Job Requirements

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to use riding and push mowers, hedge trimmers, blower, weed trimmers, chainsaws, and hand/ power tools in the various working conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to perform manual labor under various working conditions including abilities to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas in various environments.
• Ability to work independently without close supervision.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks and to prioritize assignments/set-ups.

Required Education and Experience:

Completion of sufficient education or training to read and write; plus one year experience in a skilled trades area.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to do required lifting which may exceed 50 pounds at times.
• Prolonged hours of standing and/or walking.
