United Way distributes Community Impact Mini Grants

Posted on April 4, 2019

The United Way of Union County recognized 11 local organization with Community Impact Mini Grants at a reception Wednesday at the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce.

The grants, which total $5,000, are given out every year to local programs to meet additional health and human service needs outside of United Way’s partner agencies. Since the program was started in 2003, United Way has committed more than $860,000.

“We are very excited to present these awards to these nonprofit agencies – not just existing United Way agencies – in our community who provide muchneeded services to thousands of residents in Union County,” said Executive Director Alexis Alexander. “We’re excited to be able to reach further into the community by creating these new partnerships.”

The grants were given out to programs that are looking to take innovative approaches to meeting the health and human service needs of the community with specific focus on education, health services, culture/recreation, safety and violence, and healthy behaviors.

The funding for the grants are not part of the United Way’s annual campaign, but rather through a trust the organization has set up, Alexander said.

Grants were awarded to:

Camp Fire El Dorado for a mini day camp for students at Retta Brown Elementary.

El Dorado Connections for the Socks for Seniors program.

El Dorado Schools Food Pantry to purchase snacks for their program for students.

Fairview Community Development Association for their annual school supply giveaway.

Helping Hands Food Pantry at St. Paul’s for food.
