1920s Smackover Tour @ Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources
September 26, 2021 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
"There’s black gold in south Arkansas" is what people said, as tens of thousands poured into the region during the 1920s in their search for oil. A small town of only 93 people before the boom, Smackover’s population surged up to 25,000 in a matter of months. Discover the story of Smackover and other south Arkansas towns during the turbulent twenties. Find out why there is oil in the area and hear the tales of the first discovery wells. Then explore Boomtown Street, as you see a slice of daily life during a pivotal time in south Arkansas history. Please contact the museum at (870) 725-2877 for more information. Covid-19 safety guidelines are in effect for guest and staff safety. Space may be limited.
