At the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources, we offer a variety of interactive programs that help children to explore the natural world around them. Come to the museum to make your own perky turkey to celebrate the fall season. What is a perky turkey? It is like an old-fashioned toy that you make for yourself, but using natural and modern materials, such as a pine cone, a plastic cup, and a small hobby motor. Once you complete the electrical circuit, your perky turkey will shake and scurry around. Also explore the park with a park interpreter to discover what other sorts of feathered friends call south Arkansas home during this time of year. We will also learn how the 1921 discovery of oil in south Arkansas impacted local wildlife, such as birds.
