Veterans Day, a federal holiday set aside to honor veterans of the United States Armed Forces, is Saturday.
The American Legion Post 10 and VFW Post 2413, both based in El Dorado, each year host a ceremony outside the Union County Courthouse to mark the day. This year, the ceremony is set to take place on Friday, Nov. 10.
The event, as is tradition for Veteran’s Day ceremonies, is set to begin at 11 a.m. on the east side steps of the Union County Courthouse, weather permitting.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved inside to the first floor lobby of the courthouse.
Burke said the ceremony is currently set to begin with remarks from Post 10 officer Jerry Earnest followed by a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem.
The El Dorado High School JROTC will post colors next, and a VFW representative will also deliver remarks.
Burke, a U.S. Army veteran, is currently set to serve as the keynote speaker.
