El Dorado native and Memphis, Tennessee resident Melanie Pyron returns to the Price and Lobby Galleries of the South Arkansas Arts Center with a new exhibition entitled “Ebb and Flow.? An opening reception will be hosted by the visual arts committee on August 10 beginning at 6:00 p.m. The reception and exhibition, which is on display through August 30, are free and open to the public.
The concept Pyron was motivated to explore for this collection of new works in acrylic, oil pastel and chalk came from an empowering dream.
“In the dream I was on a lengthy journey miles out in a calm and shallow sea. Standing in a small wooden boat pushing myself along with a long ore, there was no land in sight. It was as if the sky and the ocean were all the same force encouraging me and teaching me powerful secrets. During the process of actually rendering this experience my everyday life changed dramatically. The awareness I had in this dream got stuck. What felt soft became jagged and the clarity became a dense fog. Over and over again I scrubbed the colors on and off and on and off trying to pull back the original buoyancy and strength I had known in the dream. My personal and professional life shifted sharply under the pressures and pleasures of new mommyhood and partnership. I had to surrender to an ultimate unknown. For this, the body of work became anchored to the ocean and to color, two great balancing teachers, and the imagery shifted with the tides,? said Pyron.
