The Theatre Committee of the South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC) announces auditions for the upcoming summer musical production of Chicago, on May 22 and 23 at 6:00 p.m. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. on both nights.
The musical, sponsored by Nexans AmerCable, opens July 12 and continues through July 22. Parts are available for 21+ adult men and women. The ensemble cast includes ethnic roles, star vehicles for two males and two females, and many featured roles, including six to eight feature dance roles for women and men. All characters sing and dance, and a strong, large chorus is needed. Auditions are open to persons 18 and older; for exceptions contact the SAAC office.
Preparing for auditions is easy. Simply fill out an audition form during registration, or in advance by downloading the form from www.saac-arts.org. Wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear that allows for unrestricted movement. The director requests that everyone bring 16 bars or one verse of a prepared song for the audition. Either an accompaniment CD or sheet music are required. Select a song that shows your vocal range and is preferably not from this show. Everyone auditioning will learn a short dance combination-expect a "Fosse" musical-theatre style of dancing-and then read from the script. Scripts are available for one-day check out in the SAAC office.
Share your talent this summer on the SAAC stage by auditioning for Chicago on May 22 and 23. For more information about auditions or the production, contact the SAAC office at (870) 862-5474."
