The third Mutt Strut is planned for Oct. 30 in downtown El Dorado – and this year, the event will paint the town pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Costume contests for children and pets, as well as plenty of other opportunities for fun and treats will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the east side of the Union County Courthouse, along Jefferson and Elm.

Sponsors for the event are Barkingham Acres Kennel, El Dorado News-Times and Main Street El Dorado. Proceeds from the event will benefit Breast Friends Cancer Support Group.

The Mutt Strut parade will begin at 11a.m., followed at 11:30 by the pet contest. The children’s contest will begin at 1 p.m. and trick or treating with downtown merchants will be throughout the day.

Registration for the pet contest will be from 10 to 11 a.m. The entry fee is $2 per category. Categories include: best costume, pet/owner look-alike and pinkest. Prizes will be awarded for first-third in all three categories.

Registration in the children’s contest will be from noon to 1 p.m. The cost is $ and age categories include: 0-6 and 7-12. Categories will include best costume and pinkest. Prizes will be awarded for first-third place in both categories.

Breast Friends Cancer Support Group will be selling popcorn and lemonade and other items. The Union County Animal Protection Society will have a booth and the American Red Cross will have a dog CPR demonstration.

All pets must be on a leash and all pets and children must be accompanied by an adult.
