Tree Talk-Tinkering with Nature @ Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources

September 25, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

What type of tree did rigbuilders use to construct the wooden derricks of the 1920s oil boom? Can you find the Quercus falcata? Or try to find the tree with bark that is peeling off. Come to the museum and explore the Oil Park, as we learn the story of the 1920s oil boom and how the rush to find black gold impacted trees and other plant life. Go on a tree scavenger hunt with a park interpreter, as you discover fun facts about some of the trees in the Oil Park. Afterwards, indulge your creativity, when you make a nature craft. Due to limited space, registration is required for this activity. Please contact the museum at (870) 725-2877 to reserve a place. Everyone is welcome. However, this program is geared towards children from 6 to 12 years. Covid-19 guidelines will be in effect for guest and staff safety.
